EXCITING NEW ADDITION SHIPPING TO START WEEK OF 8/11/2025

Reef By Steele is dedicated to bringing you the best products at the lowest prices possible. We are excited to introduce our new targeted CUC (Clean Up Crew) tank packs. Starting at 25 gallons up to 300 gallons we have the right package to help you maintain a clear and clean tank. With three levels to choose from, you can target your tanks individual needs. Our packages include a variety of wild sourced species of various sizes, but to date our suppliers have been very good with providing viable animals vs tiny creatures you can barely see. Note that some species are smaller when fully grown, and therefore may seem small upon arrival. The Nassarius Vibex only grows to a maximum of 3/4" and we generally receive and ship snails around 3/8".
Our packages come in Standard, Premium and Extreme versions. Standard packages are snail only for those wishing to avoid hermits and crabs, these packages still help to remove most nuisance algae's including GHA (Green Hair Algae). Premium packages will be an assortment of snails and hermits for a more diverse range of attack, and will generally be more aggressive in hair algae removal than snail only. Extreme packages are our premier offering with snails, hermits, crabs and specialty additions such as urchins, stars, conchs and more.

We have invested time researching the proper mix of species and amounts to provide for the needs of various sizes of tanks, and can generate a custom package for you if you have specific needs and goals. However we do not offer substitutions within the packages listed. Each package will have a list of items, which we will follow when packaging as closely as possible, but we reserve the option of substituting similar products of equal or greater value in the event that we run short on a species listed.
Used in combination with our Copepod and Phyto Buffets, you can naturally achieve crystal clear glass and water, while sifting your sand bed with less maintenance providing more time to simply enjoy your reef.

We generally ship Monday-Wednesday to avoid delays causing our products to sit in hot/cold trucks and warehouses over the weekend. Generally we ship CUC Tuesday and Wednesday to allow us to freshly harvest our cultured products as we do not store product. For this reason we evaluate remaining time after harvest and only collect and package CUC if we are sure we can box and ship the same day. We ship the majority of our product including CUC via UPS 2 day air, with almost 100% live arrival success, and most failures are due to shipping delays. Our CUC packages however will all ship FedEx Overnight included in the package price (no additional fees). However they do not combine with other product to qualify for free shipping as we have calculated size and weight of these packages to determine shipping cost. Other items purchased with the packages will ship 2 Day Air as long the price meets the $40 threshold. Customers can request a custom quote to add the products to their overnight order and pay only the difference in shipping fees.

Each package will have a list of species and quantities included, many from the following list.

  • Due to the seasonality of some of these animals, specifically Scarlet Hermits, Red Leg Hermits and Turbo Snails, we may at times need to substitute out these animals with other snails/hermits of equal or greater value in order to ship your package on time.  We do our best to ship exactly what is listed but due to weather, shipping and seasonality we may need to substitute from time to time in these packages.

Red & Blue Leg Hermits are an essential part of any Clean Up Crew. These workers are omnivorous and can play an essential role in any Clean Up Crew. They are able to reach into the smallest of places removing nuisance algae including Cyanobacteria and filamentous strains such as GHA, left over food, and detritus. One of the many members who help to stir and aerate our sand beds.

Scarlet Hermits are an attractive addition to any Clean Up Crew. These hermits have a voracious appetite for detritus and algae. In fact, they have a particular penchant for nuisance algae of the filamentous, hair, and slime varieties, as well as Cyanobacteria. Scarlet hermits are known to be very peaceful to their tank mates. While some hermits we use in our tanks come from sea grass beds, Scarlets actually live on the reef in the wild.

Nassarius Snails are very active scavengers, feeding on carrion, detritus and excess food. Known to burrow in marine substrates waiting with only their siphon protruding until they detect nearby food. Then they seem to converge upon it quite rapidly. Nassarius Snails are a vital addition for maintaining a healthy aerated sand bed as they work their way throughout the tank.

Astrea Snails are a power house addition when it comes to many sources of nuisance algae. They are incredibly voracious grazers of film algae, Cyanobacteria and diatoms to name just a few.

Florida or Stocky Cerith Snails are both attractive and utilitarian in their unique spiraled cone shells. One of the most sought after snails in the hobby as they consume copious amounts of algae in many different forms from film to GHA.

Turbo Snails are an extremely popular species among reef enthusiasts as they quickly eliminate large amounts of nuisance algae. Being a particularly large species of snails and can dislodge small or unsecured rock work. It goes without saying that solid foundations and strategic placement or binding of structures should always be practiced in our tanks. Known to consume mass quantities of GHA, this is a crew member that should be included in any system over 50 gallons. While Mexican Turbos may have trouble righting themselves, our Zebra turbos appear to be much better at this and also have a distinctive black and green striped shell which is absolutely beautiful to behold.

Banded or White Trochus Snails are a hardy algae destroying species. These snails are self righting and known to reproduce within the home aquarium. We strongly feel that no tank is complete without these awesome grazers. Not as large as Turbo Snails, Trochus can still reach 3" in shell size.

All invertebrates have an arrive alive guarantee.

Reef By Steele reserves the right to make suitable and equivalent substitutions depending upon our current stock.

Due to variations within species, your item may not look identical to items in the image.

Please note that we cannot consider requests for substitutions on any of our invert packs and we also cannot guarantee the crabs contained within the pack will have both claws. They will have at least one and will grow back the missing one upon their next molt. During warmer summer months some species may not be available and will be substituted appropriately.
